Sweet Dreams for Summers Nights (Archived)

Sweet Dreams for Summers Nights (Archived)

July 21, 2017

Over the years, I have witnessed a lot in the financial markets. The world has seen the painful declines of the Great Recession and more recently, one of the most dramatic and sustained recoveries in market history. All along, there have been dramatic political events, terrorist acts, natural disasters, and dire predictions. We can’t control who is elected or the laws they will pass. We can’t control earthquakes, interest rates, tsunamis, or acts of terror.  So depending on your position, it’s been like a dream or a nightmare.

I believe one of the most important tools I have as a seasoned certified financial advisor is an examination of what we can control. Together, we can control your portfolio allocation and investment selections. We can control how to approach the balance of risk versus goals. And we can control how to react to certain events and the media coverage of those events. In the end, those seemingly simple things can make a big difference.

The months and years ahead will likely bring more challenges and opportunities. The key is to get up early, do the work, focus on what is important…a financial plan you can control.  Assuring my family and my clients are positioned to meet those challenges and opportunities allows me to sleep comfortably.  To quote a familiar term, on a hot night, “I’m cool as the other side of the pillow”.

If you want a good night’s sleep, talk to your financial advisor today.  If you don’t have one, find a certified financial planner you can trust with your dreams.

"It’s your life...plan for it."
